First, I want to thank everyone who has been messaging me about NG's pending eye surgery.
Next, I want to apologize for not updating sooner because her surgery was POSTPONED. So I've spent this week trying to decompress from the emotional tension of anticipating the surgery and then realizing it wasn't going to happen. I've been totally discombobulated. And yes, relieved.
Why was it cancelled?
Well, when we went in on Tuesday evening for a final Pre-Op appointment, NG's eyes were perfectly straight. The doctor couldn't even get her eyes to cross (which is easy to do with common intermittent esotropia).
"I don't feel comfortable operating without having the right measurements," she said. "I'd be afraid of overcorrecting her eyes and they'd both point out. If it were my child, I'd wait and see."
I love this doctor. Not only is her manner with NG incredibly patient and creative, she is also a mom of young children and is honest about her feelings not just as a doctor but also as a mom.
So we are in the wait and see mode again.
Here is the update I sent the doctor on Friday:
1. I called my mom: She said she only really noticed crossing in the mornings when Noa woke up but not really rest of day.
2. For us since Tuesday: We have hardly seen her eye cross. Even in the mornings. She has been waking earlier than usual - around 7:30am - because I think she was still acclimated to East Coast time.
3. At Daycare: They said that other than noticing her left eye barely going in at one point, the rest of the day - even after naps - she has been straight. The woman even said it really makes a difference in terms of how Noa "looks" meaning having her eyes straight changes her appearance. She hadn't realized how different she looked with a crossing eye.
So weird as it seems, we are NOT seeing crossing. I would say that there may be a tiny, slight inward on the left eye on a few occasions but you really have to look hard to see it.
What is going on???
The only changes in her environment/routine:
1. She took those long flights Alaska to Florida and back.
2. She bumped her forehead pretty hard as soon as we left your office Tuesday.
3. She is waking up earlier.
More soon on the Strange Case of Baby's Bizarre Eye.

I am glad she didn't have to have the surgery and is doing better. I hope it continues! I love the new picture - she is absolutely adorable!

Yeah!!! That's good news. Maybe her eye muscle just had a "growth spurt"! phew... that sounds like a great doctor to me. =)

My wife had the same thing as a kid, 3 years of glasses and it was cured (and that was 30 years ago). Both of us are surprised that surgery was suggested by the doctors, but I guess they know better.
