Quote from Michele Norris, host of All Things Considered on NPR in answer to the question:
What's your secret to balancing career and family? (from ModernMom.com)
Michele: Hold on to your sense of humor. On most days it is like juggling chainsaws...while riding a skateboard...during a tornado. When things feel crazy, I find a dose of laughter can help relieve the pressure. Finding the right balance is tough. That old adage about having your cake and eating it too? It should come with a warning about indigestion. If you try to take on too much, watch out. I try to be honest about my strengths and my limits, and I try to listen to that little voice inside that starts to buzz when my circuits are overloaded. And I realized that I had to learn how to say "NO" more often so I could have peace in mind and more time for the most important things in life.
I don't know why this comforts me. Somehow reading about incredibly successful women who admit to the challenges of motherhood comforts me.
I'm looking for more quotes from high-profile women in high-pressure jobs who admit that they struggle, have limitations, can't do it all. If you find any online, let me know.
I came upon your blog after searching for miscarriage blogs. I miscarried just a week ago and am still trying to deal with it. It's gotten better but it's still incredibly hard. It's nice to read about women who went through the same thing. I'm thinking of starting up a blog myself to put my feelings down. Thanks again :)
