Hi. I'm a grad student doing research and I stumbled onto your blog. I hope you don't mind...

I think the news media obsessed about this because it was selling. It was selling because we as consumers were buying. That mush is pretty obvious.

I think we as media consumers were buying this story in bulk because we saw a gold-digging celebrity whore getting what she deserved. We watched with a mixture of horror and pleasure as we saw that her outrageous attempts to buck the system had ultimately backfired, and we loved it.

It gave us license to talk with one another about celebrity life and death, drug abuse, the power of money, and the importnace of a good will.

I think we were interested because it was good news to us, in a way.
