I can't believe this is still true nearly a decade after having interned at cybergrrl, inc. I, of all people, should know better, and should have negotiated my starting salary at the high-tech firm I'm going to post grad school this summer. Still, I knew in the back of my mind that I should be negotiating my compensation, but I felt badly about it, so I didn't. Hopefully my merits and work ethic will enable me to be fairly compensated while on the job. what factors will actually motivate a female to strive for more fair compensation?


i believe it's still true. i just left that world (i now teach full time). i was an IT director in higher ed, and my salary was $20k *below* that of male colleagues at the same level even though i had graduate degrees and recent industry experience.

fortunately, i was not rates-shy when i was billable. once i was salaried, though, ... different story.
