Just saw this notice in the admin section of one of my Facebook Pages:
I love how Facebook is so confident they know what is best for us in terms of reaching our fans.
We want you to connect with your fans in the most effective ways possible.
The reason for this change is that our Facebook Messages to fans are going into a section called "Other" instead of being seen by them like actual messages.
So instead, they are encouraging us to just post to our Wall so we (ostensibly) appear in our fans' News Feeds and (ostensibly) they will see those messages.
I've rarely used the Facebook Message feature from a Page anyway as it often seemed like a spammy outreach technique. But good to know Facebook is looking out for us to ensure our messages get to our fans.
Just thought you should know.
How does this change the way you're communicating with your Facebook Fans, if at all?
I rarely go to Facebook. So tired of seeing updates from people I barely know. The updates tend to be "boastful" in nature - so that pisses me off more ;)
I can see most people using facebook without visiting it often - I like the timeline feature they announced because it serves like a diary. I can also see advantages in making social graph portable.
Coming back to your point on connecting with fans - the messages feature was intrusive to begin with. So if I really want to communicate something that is not very important, I would use the wall. If the message is important, I will send individual messages..
